Proprietor Sumi Chang worked with Nancy Silverton at Campanile and trained at Paris’ renowned pâtisserie, Lenôtre, and it shows. This tiny, unpretentious bakery---a gathering place for local foodies---specializes in breads that go easy on fat, sugar and dairy. The flaky scones, white chocolate cakes, brownies, lemon bars, strudel and croissants, however, are rich in butter, sugar, eggs and cream. Also tempting are the blueberry muffins and sticky buns. Chang’s bittersweet chocolate tart is a memorable, intense experience and she has begun making delicate Parisian-style macarons with inventive Pierre Hermé-inspired flavors. Sandwiches are offered, too, and the creamy open-faced egg salad, layered with greens and sun-dried tomato paste, is one of L.A.'s all-time great snacks.
