Eva's, A Caribbean Kitchen Restaurant Review: This tiny restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway near Victoria Beach is the product of chef and proprietor Eva Madray. The interior is rather funky, with lime-green walls adorned with masks, a bright-orange ceiling and intimate patio. But most guests come here for Madray's down-home West Indies cuisine, not the kitschy atmosphere. If you’re in the mood for an authentic Caribbean meal, this is one of the few spots in Orange County for delicacies such as conch fritters, crab and sweet corn cakes and jerk-seasoned steak, chicken and salmon. Spicy main dishes like the Creole-stewed fish, curry prawns and blackened catfish aren't meant for sensitive stomachs. In fact, a good portion of the menu is intended to make you sweat and reach for your beer glass. The long libations list includes an extensive selection of rums as well as island-style specialties such as rum punch or guava juice with rum. Finish your meal with Key lime pie, rum-marinated peach cobbler or a seasonal gelato.
