Eva's, A Caribbean Kitchen Restaurant Review: This tiny restaurant, located along Pacific Coast Highway in South Laguna near Victoria Beach, is the passion of chef and proprietor Eva Madray. The interior is rather funky with its lime-green walls hung with masks, its bright-orange ceiling and the intimate patio. But most come here for Madray's down-home West Indies cuisine rather than the kitschy atmosphere. If you’re in the mood for an authentic Caribbean meal, this is one of the few spots in OC for such delicacies as conch fritters, crab and sweet corn cakes and jerk-seasoned steak, chicken and salmon. Spicy main dishes, like the Creole-stewed fish, curry prawns and blackened catfish, aren't meant for sensitive stomachs. In fact, the food is intended to make you sweat and reach for your beer glass. The long libations list includes an extensive selection of rums as well as such island-style specialties as rum punch or guava juice with rum. Finish your meal with Key lime pie or New York-style cheesecake flavored with mango.
