Everett & Jones Barbeque #2 Restaurant Review

: This local barbecue institution, along with its sister restaurant in Oakland, dishes up some of the best ribs, chicken, barbecued beef and links this side of Memphis. The potato salad and sandwich bread sides are traditional staples, but the tangy brisket is what brings people back, all day and all night. Only a lucky few get to eat inside the smoky den. Be sure to grab plenty of napkins.

Don't judge all E&J's by this one

As a frequent customer of Everett and Jones BBQ, I was annoyed by the attitude of the staff at the Berkeley restrurant. As usual, the woman who works the cash register was very friendly, however when I asked to sample the beef to see if it was tender (if you don't know, depending on who's cutting the beef, it may not be cut with the right grain), after a deep sigh and a rolling of the eyes the meat cutter cut off a peice that was very tough. We decided to get 3 2-ways (ribs and links) to go. At those prices (over $17 each) I would have been very upset with the tough beef I have received in the past from this restrurant. hey need to make sure the people cutting the meat know what they're doing and do it with a smile (or at least a pleasant attitude!).
