In Italian, "fascino" means charm, glamour, fascination---the perfect description of this softly lit, simply decorated BYO. Chef Ryan DePersio is a rare talent but he doesn't do it alone: the entire family is involved, including his mother, Cynthia, who is the gifted pastry chef. The dessert menu is her showcase, but the flakiness of her pastries is evident in savory appetizers as well. DePersio, who worked at New York's Bouley Bakery, Vong and Jean Georges, uses tantalizing flavors in ingenious ways. Pasta is especially good here. The orecchiette with roasted cauliflower and sweet pesto is a standout. Vegetables are first-rate with ramps and yellow wax beans so beautiful they look as if they’d been snatched from a still life. These dishes arrive at the table in big white crockery bowls napped in any of varied sauces. There is also an appealing vegetarian menu with thoughtful dishes carefully and intelligently made. Service is usually topnotch and very friendly. |
