The Fat Dog Restaurant Review: This inviting gastropub, a spinoff of a Montrose favorite, features an endearing doggie-oriented décor, particularly through multiple images of French bulldogs (even the wallpaper in the bathroom displays the breeds of the American Kennel Association). Items like a beet salad with chèvre and hazelnut vinaigrette suggest a sophisticated kitchen, while a braised short rib French dip and a hefty sirloin burger with manchego cheese and caramelized onions satisfy big appetites. The mac ‘n’ cheese is accented with jalapeños; crab and bacon can be added to make it more indulgent. A small but satisfying lobster roll, served in a warm butter-toasted bun with miniature potato chips, is also worth consideration. Chocolate mousse and a fried banana split with peanut brittle provide happy endings. A healthy selection of domestic and imported craft beers is offered, as well as a short, globally-oriented wine list and playfully named cocktails. Naturally, pooches are welcome on the patio.
