Firebird Restaurant Review: Opulent and lush with the trappings of wealth, this Theater District restaurant is a throwback in time, attempting to recapture St. Petersburg's heyday. The menu may boast classics like chicken Kiev and borscht --- all of which are finely executed --- but chef Paul Joseph applies French technique to many dishes, making them even more satisfying. Sip on one of 200 types of vodka while enjoying the braised pork belly, served with Szechuan peppercorns and foie gras; or the house-cured gravlax with its hint of lemon grass. Diver scallops star on another plate, with an assist from confit tomato and vanilla jus. Save room for bananas Foster, which is prepared tableside by friendly servers. And in the end, remember there's always plenty of vodka available. |
