Firebirds Wood Fired Grill Restaurant Review: Firebirds does a brisk lunch business and a hopping dinner trade, so diners may have a wait, but the restaurant eases the delay pain by occasionally sending out tastes of appetizers. Specialty martinis are featured, including the signature Double Black Diamond Martini with house-made pineapple-infused vodka. The food fires on all cylinders. Starters are substantial, so go easy on the Ranch Rings (onions battered with buttermilk and panko crumbs), the coconut shrimp or the crab cakes. Or do indulge and make your dinner from several tastes. For entrées, check out the wood-fired specials: steaks or salmon, which comes out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Firebirds' signature dishes include Asiago cream chicken pasta, daily fresh fish, ribs and meatloaf. A good selection of burgers and sandwiches completes the menu. For dessert, choose from crème brûlée cheesecake, a warm chocolate brownie with salted caramel sauce and more. The wine list starts off with some commercial sparkling wines, but then, ranging through a variety of growing regions, presents more than a few interesting choices, many of them by the glass. Note especially the depth in Craggy Range, wines from New Zealand. A good rosé and a dessert wine list would be helpful. Service is efficient and friendly. Other locations are in Northlake (6801 Northlake Mall Dr., 704-295-1919) and StoneCrest (7716 Rea Rd., 704-752-7979) malls.
