What better on Napa’s revived riverfront than a seafood house submerged in sustainable sourcing? Dining here buoys a sense of kinship with the seas, even in the décor: white, black-strapped hanging lamps resemble life preservers, hefty fish hooks dangle over diners in booths, four cross-hatched glass walls facing the river create an aquarium tank illusion, and the menu reports on the coastal swells and squalls critical to that day's catch. The marine cuisine casts a wide net. Plunge into sophisticated raw bar selections such as bundles of blushing pink arctic char draped around julienned apples and fennel dressed with orange juice and chili smoked sea salt, or Hawaiian ahi tartare complemented in taste and texture by silky avocado mousse, Asian pear and hazelnuts. Heartier starters also lure: cornmeal battered belly clams with tartar and cocktail sauces; chowder with bacon and biscuit; or Portuguese clams with chorizo and crisp pork shoulder. Mains to dive for include grilled coho salmon or seared day boat scallops with pork belly hunks atop black eyed peas. For dessert, apple turnovers with applesauce ice cream and sugar-cinnamon crumbles, or butterscotch pudding are sure to hook. A heated, glassed-in patio and front bar and lounge provide alternate seating spaces. Choose glass, bottle or tap from the tight but deft wine list.
