The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. Restaurant Review

: An “only in Key West” restaurant, Filet Co. (as it’s familiarly known) is the product of two guys who grew up eating their respective mothers’ cooking, and never lost an appetite for nostalgic favorites. The menu is part 1970s tribute, with the likes of lobster Thermidor, curries with fruit (over brown rice, with a choice of fish, chicken or tofu) and chunky mashed potatoes. The kitchen also honors its location with daily, local fish specials, a bright tuna-watermelon ceviche, and a dessert of tropical stir-fry over locally-made vanilla ice cream. The third dimension of the menu is personal whimsy, expressed in the form of lobster mac ‘n’ cheese (a must-try) and “The Filet Co. Three Way,” beef chili with dark chocolate and spices served over spaghetti. Off the beaten path in a residential neighborhood, this stylish and romantic gem is friendly and familiar from the very first visit.
