The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. Restaurant Review: An “only in Key West” spot, Filet Co. (as it’s familiarly known) is the product of two guys who grew up eating their respective mothers’ cooking, and never lost an appetite for nostalgic favorites. The menu is part 1970s tribute, with the likes of lobster Thermidor, curries with fruit (over brown rice, with a choice of fish, chicken or tofu) and good chunky mashed potatoes. The restaurant also honors its location with daily, local fish specials, a bright tuna-watermelon ceviche, and a dessert of tropical stir-fry over locally-made vanilla ice cream. The third dimension of the menu is personal whimsy, expressed in the form lobster mac ‘n’ cheese (a must-try), and a beef chili with dark chocolate. Off the beaten path, in a residential neighborhood, this stylish and romantic gem is friendly and familiar from the very first visit. |
