| Flavor opened to the relief of diners looking for a bargain meal in Wine Country. The restaurant’s central perch astride tree-filled Courthouse Square makes it both an office-worker’s bonanza at lunchtime and a quick freeway detour. Exuberant servers in T-shirts contribute to its loud Olive Garden vibe. But the menu aims higher, speaking foodie language, including code words like “local” and “organic.” Perhaps that’s why the execution feels like a let-down, but still---it’s easy to forgive such ambition at these prices. You’ll find a broad range of starters like Canton-style wontons, red pear bruschetta, and hummus with homemade flatbread. Come for tasty salads that can be super-sized. Or ponder over a dozen from-scratch pastas, perhaps duck ravioli, Singapore noodles, or “napkins,” billowing sheets folded around tomato and pesto sauces with pine nuts. No reservations, but things move at a fast clip. |
