Chef Mario Moser (an alum of La Jolla's Nine-Ten) has partnered with owner Roger Browning to create a unique, innovative gastropub that honors the pig. Menus come inside of old album covers to set the clever tone, and the room is a homespun blend of art, collectibles and photographs, with mismatched glass and plateware. It's a funky mix for Oceanside's eclectic population, and the food shines. Homemade charcuterie, bacon-stuffed mac ‘n’ cheese, and chicken and dumplings (gnocchi) are solid. The spoon bread is worth the trip alone for Moser's version of an airy soufflé-style cornbread. Pork belly is braised with molasses, chicken liver dots risotto à la minute, and fried chicken comes with garlic mash. Carefully selected wines and craft beers pair nicely with the menu---just ask Roger, who is always on the floor, for assistance. For dessert, we suggest the chocolate pot de crème.
