Flying V Bar & Grill Restaurant Review: The Flying V’s menu always offers the basics: seafood, steaks, a burger and such, but it’s the seasonal preparations in the able hands of chef Josh Willett that bring people back. Located on the grounds of Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, the restaurant attracts as many local diners as it does resort guests. Newcomers will enjoy the guacamole that's created tableside by a highly trained “guacamoliere.” In late summer, we suggest the diver scallops with sunchoke purée; the crisp chicken breast topped with huitlacoche (corn smut) and nopalito (cactus) ragoût straddling a bed of creamy risotto is another good choice. And while there's a nice wine list, a full slate of tequilas---and therefore margaritas---is a big part of the scene. Save room for a dessert from pastry chef Krista Owens. Her menu is ever-changing, but there's always a “surprise” ice cream for a cool, refreshing ending to your meal. |
