| How is it possible for an Irish pub to differentiate itself in Boston, when there’s so much competition on every corner? For starters, the folks here decided to construct a thatched roof cottage inside the restaurant. The cottage actually houses several works of European art and is available for private gatherings. Named after Tommy Makem’s famous song, Four Green Fields pays equal homage to the four provinces of Ireland, from its artwork to its draft beer selection and menu. Stop by for a pint of Guinness alongside a heaping portion of shepherd’s pie and enjoy one of the weekly readings from national and local authors. There is a small wine list but the menu here ranges from traditional staples like corned beef sandwiches to the more adventurous, including Gaelic seasoned beef empanadas. For a cool view, head upstairs to the small bar and open dining room known as the John J. Sullivan room, named after a legendary Boston boxer, which overlooks the thatched cottage below. |
