Located in an industrial building on that residential section of Abbot Kinney rarely traveled by anyone but locals, the French Market Café is a Venice neighborhood gem. In addition to serving traditional French country cuisine all day long, this cozy café also boasts some of the best provisions of European edibles on the Westside, including cheese, olive oil, merguez and Nutella. Pulling up a chair on the quiet, lushly landscaped patio, diners can easily convince themselves they've traded in L.A. life for the charms of the French countryside as they sip dark roast coffee and munch fresh croissants. The smoked salmon featured on both the breakfast and lunch menus comes from Michel Blanchet. Enjoy it in omelets, salads of fresh baby greens or on thick slabs of French bread. Rounding out the menu are crêpes, quiches and hearty dishes like boeuf bourguignon with potato gratin.
