: No longer the gem of the Sami Ladeki empire, Fresh(er)is now owned by young up-and-coming mover and shaker Arturo Kassel. In his kitchen is former Blackhorse Grille chef Ryan Johnston, Culinary Institute of America-trained and former employee of none other than Thomas Keller. Together Kassel and Johnston have reworked the menu. The Kobe beef sliders are accented with Chinese five-spice and paired with mango-jicama slaw and house-made barbecue potato chips. We like the contrasting textures of toothy ahi, silky avocado and crunchy greens in the tuna poki raw plate. Other winning dishes include the grilled mahi mahi with sweet potato mash and cucumber-lime raita and the red-wine braised lamb shank with root vegetable risotto and orange gremolata. Our favorite selection is the boldly flavored rib-eye steak frites with red wine reduction and shallot butter---simple, yet satisfying.
