Frontera Mex-Mex Grill Restaurant Review: High-quality food, friendly and energetic service, and colorful interiors decorated with pottery, rugs and other artifacts---these are the hallmarks of this locally owned chain. The basics include good tamales, tostados and burritos, but there's also ceviche with fresh catfish, queso fundido (melted cheese with chorizo), the beef taquitos and the fish tacos. The home-style guacamole is chunky rather than smooth, with pico de gallo mixed in, and the pollo asado (roast chicken) and a pair of shrimp dishes (al ajillo, with garlic; and a la diabla, spicy) are quite authentic. Among the desserts, we recommend the churros for an unusual experience, but more familiar flan and sopapilla also are available.
