Geraldine's Counter Restaurant Review: Classic American diner food is given an upscale twist at this cheerful spot. Sidle up to the bar for a peek into the kitchen or grab a table for a larger party. For brunch, try the sweet white corn, havarti and herb scramble. A breakfast BLT combines arugula with thick-cut bacon. Sandwiches are served with regular fries, but order the sweet potato fries for something even better. Salads --- Cobb, spinach, curried chicken, chop chop --- are generously portioned. At dinner, a hearty chili, creamy mac ‘n’ cheese, and other old-school favorites such as chicken potpie or plump hamburgers are especially satisfying. Dessert includes Mexican chocolate mousse pie, fruit crisp and banana split. Service is prompt, and counter seating is appealing to single diners catching up with the newspaper or seeking a quick meal.
