Gerard's Restaurant Restaurant Review: Located in the romantic setting of The Plantation Inn, Gérard's is one of Maui's favorite French restaurants. It was in 1982 that chef Gérard Reversade opened a small, very French restaurant on Maui. Overnight word spread about his excellent food. In 1987, he moved up the street into The Plantation Inn and his cooking only got better. Patrons can dine outside or inside in the small rooms; we recommend reserving a table on the lanai or on the garden patio. However, on a hot summer evening, you might prefer dining inside. The wicker tables and chairs offer the feeling of dining in a French country inn. Gérard's menu, which changes frequently, is mainly French cuisine with an extensive use of Hawaiian produce and fish, which gives it a lightness. Gérard has fallen in love with Hawaiian fish and continues to create new ways to serve it, like roasted Hawaiian snapper with star anise, fennel fondue, and emulsion of orange and ginger. The wine list is well-thought-out and reasonably priced by Lahaina standards. Premium wines and Champagne are also available by the glass. All desserts are house-made; don't miss Gérard's hand-picked tropical fruit sorbets. Book well in advance --- every tourist in the know wants to sample this food.
