 Not far from downtown, the Germantown Café is blessed with an expansive and illuminated nighttime view of the Capitol building. The menu’s full of such Southern classics as fried green tomatoes and Gulf shrimp sautéed in Cajun butter. Regulars enjoy the plum pork medallions and coconut curry salmon. Should you find yourself in Nashville in the middle of a cold snap, head here straightaway and get a bowl of French onion soup, a rich and buttery broth capped with Swiss cheese. At brunch, try the crab cakes Benedict with cayenne hollandaise or the spicy shrimp over pepper jack grits. The mostly California-based, value-oriented wine list’s selections are almost all available by the glass, and there are some large format offerings as well. The dessert list includes well-done classics such as crème brûlée.
