Giada Restaurant Review

: Giada De Laurentiis took great care in assuring that her first restaurant would give the impression of dining in her home. As you enter and pass by several cooking stations, you can’t miss the lounge, with its cozy living room furniture. The dining room is awash in white, red and brown hues; hardwood and tile flooring; posters from grandfather/film producer Dino’s movies; and comfortable padded chairs. As you would expect, the menu offers traditional family recipes and her signature dishes, as seen on her Food Network TV shows and in her cookbooks. Begin with the charred octopus with potato, fennel and olive salsa; or opt for the pecorino tartufo enhanced with apricot preserves. Pastas are well represented by risotto with crab and scallops; ravioli with lobster, asparagus tips and tarragon; and the simple yet elegant spaghetti with shrimp, lemon and basil. Entrées include pan-roasted salmon with summer succotash, a Tuscan rib-eye finished with lemon and a sunny side up egg, and whole-roasted chicken cacciatore-style. A side we like is the crispy polenta with checca sauce. The dessert cart contains a bevy of temptations, among them tiramisu, strawberry crostata and chocolate amaretti cake. A portion of the antipasti dishes are on the lunch menu, which also has sandwiches, additional salads and pizzas. A wine list of 400 selections is divided into equal parts American, Italian and French, along with a smattering from Spain and Chile. Signature cocktails are named after Dino’s movies, such as the "Barbarella" --- Tanqueray No. Ten, orange spice ginger beer, fresh lemon and basil foam.
