THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gigi's Restaurant Review:
Taste the Love is the motto of GiGis, named for the lady whose great grandchildren lovingly called her that---and treasured her recipes passed down through generations. Its said that she never sacrificed the quality, or the love, in her home cooking. The dimly lit black-and-burgundy eatery is comfortable and warm, with velvety love seats in the foyer, velvety booths, flickering table lamps covered with pleated shades, ceiling fans, plants and shelves displaying figures of Sammy Davis Jr., Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong, plus a photo of B.B. King in a frame decorated with one of his guitars. A jazz pianist/singer entertains from time to time in a corner of the lounge that houses a massive bar. Though the service can be slow and the kitchen out of an item or two (or three), GiGis food is the epitome of Southern cooking: smothered pork chops, chicken with home-style gravy, zesty blackened catfish. The oxtails are stewed in a red sauce with red potatoes. The dirty shrimp with spicy barbecue sauce will have you believing youre in the heart of soul country. We love the sweet potato pie for dessert.
