THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Ginger & Spice Restaurant Review:
Ginger & Spice is a veritable culinary yin and yang. Each dish is a study in contrast. The spicy ginger crab cake napped with a creamy, sweet shallot-vermouth sauce arrives on a plate with mesclun salad dressed in acidic balsamic vinaigrette. Wontons stuffed with mild minced shrimp and pork are served with cumin-citrus glaze. Its locale is a strip mall, but walk through the door into a Japanese tea garden---a high-tech tea garden---with plasma-screen TVs in every booth (children may bring their own DVDs). The dining room curves so there are no hard corners. Walls are paneled in hardwood bamboo; the booths sit on a tier of polished black Mexican beach stone. The staff is friendly, professional and well-versed in each dish’s ingredients and preparation. The coconut-lemongrass soup is a showstopper---this original dessert served in a big crockery bowl features chilled coconut milk broth drenching diced pineapple, sliced strawberries and tapioca pearls. In the center, a scoop of cooling fruit sorbet.
