| One of the city's best-loved Japanese joints is found in Chinatown. Thanks to hours that stretch until 4 a.m. some nights, it attracts a vibrant crowd that ranges from destination diners and club kids, to just-off-work chefs and wired students. Still, the once-cheery interior is showing its age, and the eats aren’t always up to snuff anymore either. Don’t get us wrong---the sushi's still good; hotate-hokkaiyaki (scallops in the shell with spicy mayo) remain a special fave. But these days, Ginza is hardly the only game in town. To compete, it needs to present not just fresh fish but a fresh attitude. |
