Gobi Mongolian Grill Restaurant Review

: If you're not happy with your meal at Gobi, it's pretty much your own fault. And that makes Southington's create-your-own stir-fried masterpieces spot ideal for groups with diverse dietary preferences. There's a small salad bar --- with crisp, fresh greens and fixings --- but we usually head straight to the buffet array of noodles, vegetables and meats after a server takes our order for Japanese beers like Sapporo and Japanese sodas for the kids. If you've been to a Mongolian grill, you know the drill: fill a plate with raw ingredients, ladle sauce into a cup, then report to the circular grill, where chefs toss your creation until it's sizzling hot. At Gobi, the experience requires strategic thinking. The sheer number of ingredients --- especially at dinnertime --- makes near-infinite combinations possible, and while it's all-you-can-eat, chances are good you'll be full after a trip or two through the line. The protein selection alone is mind-boggling: not just the usual suspects like chicken and beef, but lamb, bacon, egg, meatballs, shrimp, scallops, squid, salmon, tilapia. And there are more than a dozen sauces, from marinara to spicy Kung Pao. We like to design at least one seafood-heavy dish with thick udon noodles; unusual vegetables like baby corn, bok choy and water chestnuts; and ginger sesame sauce. Unlimited desserts are included, so fill a bowl with ice cream (try cake batter and coconut), chocolate sauce, pineapple and sprinkles. Bob's Furniture is in the same plaza, so there are hundreds of couches and mattresses to test while you digest.
