Gracie’s Restaurant Review: Gracie’s dining room pays homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood with architectural details such as a swanky, sleek bar area, gold-leaf ceilings and crystal chandeliers. The menu is all over the map, ranging from roasted lamb with mint pesto and couscous, chimichurri steak, and a crab grilled cheese sandwich paired with tomato bisque. For the most part, dishes live up to their ambitious intentions. Popular choices include a Gorgonzola cheesecake, crab cakes with Dijon mustard sauce, a house-pickled vegetable salad, and classics such as eggs Benedict and German pancakes topped with Calvados-brandied apples, brown sugar and raisins. Vegetarians will find plenty of choices, including fried cauliflower with olives, roasted garlic and lemon zest. Crème brûlée and bread pudding cake are stars on the dessert list. Brunch is served all day and offers indulgences like a crab Benedict. The adjoining Driftwood Room, one of Portland’s original cocktail lounges, is ideal for a pre- or post-dinner tipple; many drinks are named for former Silver Screen divas. Theatre patrons attending nearby Artists Repertory Theatre appreciate the prix-fixe pre-theater menu.
