 There’s a theatrical theme to the house restaurant of the retro Hotel deLuxe. The elegant dining room pays homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood with fine architectural details such as a gold-leaf ceiling and glass chandeliers. The dinner menu is divided into “Introductions,” “Center Stage” and “Featured Attractions,” yet the dishes themselves eschew cute titles and instead involve straightforward preparations of classics including grilled pork medallions, braised lamb and a daily risotto. One of Portland’s original cocktail lounges, the adjoining Driftwood Room bar is ideal for a pre- or post-dinner cocktail; many are named for former Silver Screen divas. There are also classic sandwiches and breakfast is available all day. Sunday brunch is something special here, offering a varied menu with many stars, including German pancakes topped with Calvados brandied apples, brown sugar and raisins.
