Grand Central Bakery & Cafe Restaurant Review: Grand Central bakeries supply many local restaurants, but the baked goods are never fresher or in greater variety than right at the source. The kitchen uses locally grown and milled Shepherd's Grain flour. This Irvington branch gets busy, especially during the morning rush hour and at lunchtime, when popular items often run out. Baked goods include pies, muffins, quiches, scones, croissants, hand pies, not-too-gooey whole-grain cinnamon rolls, and biscuits with jam centers. The bakery’s rustic breads provide the ballast for many tasty sandwiches, such as vegetable grinders, turkey and chutney, and tuna salad made from wild-caught albacore. We're especially fond of the savory pressed “Tostis” stuffed with tuna salad or Swiss cheese and basil. Fresh and healthy soups along with salads, including a seasonal chicken salad, are available, too. A variety of breakfast sandwiches arrive on a bolo roll, brioche bun or croissant.
