| Grégoire has grabbed the upscale take-out niche in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto. Locals download the monthly lunch and dinner menus from the restaurant's web site and call in their orders for smooth and easy pick-up. Good thing, because the restaurant only has a few stools inside and a few tables outside. Lunch offers soups, salads and a variety of high-end sandwiches like creamy egg salad and caviar on crostini, thin-sliced coppa, mozzarella and preserved tomato on pantofolina, or New York strip with raclette cheese and walnut butter. Do not miss the house-made crispy potato puffs. Dinners are heartier and more sophisticated. Salmon gets an earthy kick from baking on a cedar plank, spicy soy vinaigrette sets off grilled ginger shrimp, and grilled lamb chops are topped with sweet tomato salsa. Try the refreshing lemon pound cake for dessert. |
