| This small, suburban storefront with a few tables and a take-out counter quietly hands out some of the most authentic Creole cuisine in the area. Gumbo bears evidence of a deeply browned roux, and the jambalaya is topnotch. The bread for the po’ boys may not be shatteringly crisp enough to be called authentic, but the overstuffed fillings make up for the difference. Saturdays bring a weekly crawfish boil, and, naturally, there's bread pudding. Wash it down with bottled soda or beer (the lack of sweet tea is a bit surprising). No matter how busy things get---and they do get busy---service retains a Southern charm thanks to the owners, Sid and Mary Roberts. This is family cooking from the Roberts’ own ancestors. Closing time Friday and Saturday is 8 p.m., so don't be late. |
