| The hamburger fairytale of a local teen whose first job led to a Santa Barbara tradition, the Habit --- now with more than 50 locations --- is one of the city’s finest originals. Here, smoke from the charbroiler beckons the lunch crowd. And a crowd is just what you’ll find most days. High school kids swarm the small restaurant, lining up to order at the counter alongside blue collar workers and the suit-and-tie set. Though burgers are the Habit’s claim to fame, healthier alternatives such as fish sandwiches --- made with hand-cut and filleted tuna steaks --- and crisp salads are available. The simple menu sticks to a time-honored formula that regulars have come to know and love over the past 25 years. Desserts are limited to traditional burger stand offerings: shakes, malts, ice cream cones and sundaes. Three locations in Santa Barbara, plus one in Goleta. |
