On the Half Shell Oyster Bar Restaurant Review: A bigger selection of bivalves (on their own half shells) would be welcome at this cozy, downtown oyster bar just off atmospheric Charles Court; as it is, we only have the Texas Gulf Coast as a source. (Yes, its oysters are back.) But the owners appear to feel the formula is working for them. Appetizers such as jumbo pretzels with Creole mustard, oak-smoked salmon with horseradish cream cheese, and shrimp cocktail with a Creole rémoulade do provide partnership to bar drinks, and there’s a sampler platter with oysters and more for the indecisive. We’re decisive about one thing: the wine list needs a few more mollusk-friendly whites. The mezzanine, with its fat furniture and flat-screen, is a good place to hide out, though you can’t escape the hip-hop DJ entertainment that takes over late on Wednesdays.
