Harney Sushi Restaurant Review: Chef Robert Ruiz not only serves sustainable sushi at Harney, he also created the first edible QR code on rice paper so diners can scan the matrix on their rolls and learn about what they’re going to eat. Ruiz works directly with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency) to make sure he has current data on what sustainable fish are best to buy. Sushi goes way beyond traditional rolls, offering more than two-dozen creations such as the Chuck Norris --- spicy crab and shrimp tempura topped with tuna, avocado and green onions. Or try the Mellow Yellow --- spicy tuna, shrimp tempura topped with kampachi, avocado and salsa. Nigiri, sashimi, Asian-influenced small plates and main dishes like pork ramen in miso and sea bass with burnt garlic yogurt are also good choices. It all pairs well with the saké menu and modern beachy décor. DJs spin on the weekends, adding to the compelling vibe. A sibling restaurant is located in Old Town at 3964 Harney St., 619-295-3272.
