Harry's Bar & Burger, a creation from Rhode Island restaurateur John Elkhay, aims squarely at the proletariat---or at least budget-strapped scions attending nearby Brown University. Harry's menu is endearingly simple---that is, as long as you like hamburgers or hot dogs (other options are limited to grilled chicken, Sloppy Joes and meatball sandwiches). The burgers come ten different ways; pastrami and pulled pork are more inventive toppings. Oddly on one visit, the waitress didn't ask how the bacon cheeseburgers should be cooked, so they arrived medium. The basic burger (two actually, since they are served as paired "sliders") will set you back just $3.99, and Harry's classic dog is a mere $2.99. That's about right for the serving size; sides (fries and onion strings) are extra. It's a nice spot for a casual lunch downtown, but we'd have to agree with whoever decided to mention "bar" first and the food second in the name.
