| This Downtown version of one of the metro area's best-known Indian restaurants serves the Atlanta Mart complex, but is accessible to the public as well. The interior is rather dimly lit, ensuring that few will bring work from their offices while they dine. Indian businesspeople and their American counterparts flock for the buffet lunch, which draws from the menu's regular dishes. The excellent saag paneer (creamed spinach with homemade cheese) is a buffet staple, and there always are two meat dishes. But often they might both be chicken, whereas the suburban buffet has occasionally offered goat. The buffets at either location don't have nearly the variety of dishes other Indian restaurants offer at lunch, and it's more expensive than most. But the dinner menu is the same, and only two of the dishes vary slightly in preparation from the suburban location's menu. A note on the tandoori chicken: Even though this menu doesn't say so, a half chicken also is available here as at the main location. Also, according to staffers, this location uses less oil in dishes than might be typical in Indian cooking. The cooking is reliable, consistent, offers lots of vegetarian dishes, and is one of the few places to dine Downtown on a Sunday evening. |
