Hix Restaurant Review

: This branch of Mark Hix’s empire, opened after Hix Oyster & Chop House in Smithfield, is glamorous and chic. Mark’s Bar in the basement is a great meeting place, offering top cocktails as well as wines. Go for the atmosphere. Minimalist décor and Britart on the walls set the scene, but the star is Hix’s British regional food. A seasonally led, ever-changing menu might start with a duck, kohlrabi and pea shoot salad, or Cornish shellfish soup with cider brandy. Follow with a fillet of rainbow trout with crayfish and watercress, or guinea fowl curry with apple pakoras. Cheeses are the British best; desserts might include apple pie or chocolate mousse with honeycomb. Service is good; the atmosphere electric; expect to pay for the privilege or go for the set menus. The set menu available from 12pm-6.30pm is 2 courses for £19.50, 3 courses £22.50.
