Honor Kitchen & Cocktails Restaurant Review:

The success of this heartfelt bar and eatery can be found in the strength of its expert drinks menu, its come-as-you-are comforts and its characters --- namely an "honorable," unpretentious staff that attracts the same in its patrons. Share plates of seasonal, generously seasoned American bites crafted for pairing include warm burrata served with crisp asparagus, brown bread and duxelles; local oysters with ponzu, yuzu tobiko and shiso; and the bucket of savory, elegantly fried pieces of half a chicken served with a maple sausage biscuit and lightly tossed ditalini salad. Hand-cut Kennebec fries shatter appealingly to the bite, served with house-made dipping sauces (along with Heinz ketchup to keep it real). Try the dusky, fragrant "gypsy poem" cocktail (rum, apple brandy, apple butter, Averna and lemon) with a side of raspberry upside-down cake for a just-sweet-enough finish. Once an old sushi joint, the place feels like someone's darkened den overtaken by a large bar and wooden dining tables, with a décor of quirky, vintage knick-knacks and posters, and an "honor" bucket of iced beers near the entrance. Grab one and pay the bartender when she's no longer five cocktails deep. Honor serves a boozy brunch Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
