Hops & Pie Restaurant Review: You'll find bona fide beer geeks and equally serious pie proponents sharing space at this pizza hangout in Berkeley that's packed day and night with a throng of regulars. There are nearly two dozen craft beers on tap --- porters, stouts, IPAs, sours and cask-conditioned ales --- all of which pair well with the thin-crusted (gluten-free crust is also available) artisan pizzas crowned with ingredients like house-pickled banana peppers, beer-braised brisket, smoked ham hock and even mashed potatoes. There are plenty of toppings for purists, too: pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, sausage and bell peppers all grace the menu, which also offers fresh salads, sandwiches, soups and post-dinner treats, including bread pudding glazed with bourbon sauce. The most coveted seats are at the always pulsating bar, but if you arrive with kids in tow, the dining room, stamped with art and outfitted with wooden tables, is a quieter alternative.
