THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED House of Blues Restaurant Review:
Bostons outpost of the infamous Sin City music hall is also a restaurant worth visiting. The down-and-dirty attitude of the Bayou comes across in the dimly lit and often raucous room, where Cajun specialties rule the day. We deplore the fact that this isnt the place which offers the real-deal for one of Americas most exciting cuisines. Sure, the shrimp po boy is an overstuffed joy and the catfish nuggets are all one could ask for in fried chunks of fish, but the entrées leave something to be desired. Jambalaya is flat, not at all the cacophonous throw-down it is in New Orleans; penne pasta with a wild mushroom cream sauce and smoked Gouda is so flat that it might as well cab it over to a suburban Italian joint; and crawfish and shrimp etouffée lacks fire. Then again, with national acts in the upstairs concert hall and people partying left and right, its not always about food-food-food.
