Huey’s, with multiple locations in Memphis (there’s one in nearby Southaven, Miss., too), has cornered the market on some of the city’s best burgers. The place specializes in juicy homemade beef burgers topped with anything from pepper jack cheese and jalapeños to smoked cheddar and guacamole. Huey’s vegan burger would fool even the most diehard carnivore, and a heart-healthy beef burger (served on a whole-wheat bun) will please the diet-conscious. Desserts include lemon icebox pie and The Rockslide brownie sundae (a brownie topped with caramel, ice cream, and more brownie crumbles). Wine offerings aren’t particularly impressive, but Huey’s does boast a full bar. On Sundays there's free live music (jazz in the late afternoon, the best of the local blues and rock scene at night). Flip-flops casual and laid back (think booths, checked tablecloths, local memorabilia), Huey's is predictable and thus comforting. This Midtown location offers a small patio for outdoor dining on warm, breezy days.
