Hukilau Lanai Restaurant Review: A casual, airy setting, much like sitting out on a friend's lanai, makes this restaurant very pleasant and enjoyable. The ambience and service are both island-style, meaning it's relaxed, but that's a good thing. This is a place where you can just hang out and enjoy a nice leisurely meal of well-prepared original dishes created from mostly local ingredients. It's also a lovely spot for a drink and appetizers, as the torch-lit lanai overlooks the ocean and easy-listening music is performed nightly. The ahi poke nachos and barbecue ribs are top choices on the pupu menu, while entrées run the gamut from steak Crown Royale through meatloaf made from local grass-fed beef. But fresh island fish paired with well-suited sauces is where the kitchen shines. You’ll find opah, ahi, mahi mahi or whatever is good and right off the boats, literally. Or choose a mixed surf ‘n’ turf plate. Desserts are creative: don't miss the lilikoi chiffon pie or a cake made from Big Island chocolate and served warm. A separate menu of gluten-free items is a thoughtful touch. |
