Hunter's Head Tavern Restaurant Review: Notice for all omnivores: If you are seeking terrific grass-fed and locally raised beef---the meat here comes from the famed Upperville Ayrshire Farm---plan to take a plunge into a “green”-friendly menu. You’ll even find the old classic, liver and onions, with Ayrshire’s bacon, but you could be content simply with the Ayrshire hamburger---the meat tender and flavorful---sided by fresh, hot fries. The menu is filled with old-time American goodies, from chicken potpie and Welsh rarebit to a handful of British faves, including bangers and mash and bubble and squeak. Without a trendy dish on the menu, you’ll feel you have stepped back in time a few decades, perfect for the rustic tavern setting with its wood-plank floors and all-wood interior that date back to the original log cabin built in the 1700s. And save room for dessert, which ranges from the seasonal paw-paw ice cream to the lusty chocolate pudding and pumpkin cheesecake with caramel sauce. The prices are moderate, which allows families to bring in the whole gang without breaking the budget.
