 Hussong’s Cantina Taqueria Restaurant Review: Hussong’s Cantina Taqueria brings one of Baja California’s favorite Mexican spots to Mandalay Place. With all the charms of the original in Ensenada, Mexico, just 50 miles south of Tijuana, Hussong’s creates an authentic experience. Executive chef Noe Alcala has a long history serving Mexican fare, working as executive chef at Diablo’s Cantina at the Monte Carlo and Pink Taco at the Hard Rock Hotel. The authentic flavors start with corn tortillas made as they are ordered. The elote plazero slathers grilled corn with a combination of mayonnaise and butter, smothered in cotija cheese. The tacos come on homemade corn tortillas in choices such as goat meat, pork or Dorado lobster, perfect for sharing. The pescado features white fish with a blue-corn crust and creamy white rice with a tropical pineapple salad. Thinly rolled flautas come with slow-cooked pulled chicken. For dessert, try the sopapillas, with just a touch of cinnamon, or the churros with a pastry cream within to balance out the flavor of the cake.
