| Originally opened as a bakery with sumptuous goods, the café expanded into a full-service joint that rapidly became a pet of the locals for many reasons, among them brunch items like guava and cream cheese-stuffed french toast, and sopes (house-made corn tarts with chorizo, scrambled eggs, black beans, two cheeses and fresh salsa). Beyond sweets and breakfast, the open kitchen offers global fare, which can range from sandwiches and salads to pumpkin risotto and Asian-marinated veal chops. But let's face it: what really keeps 'em coming back are the unique desserts, ranging from icebox cakes to contemporary creations like raspberry chocolate mousse cake (featuring Belgian chocolate and fresh berries) and a tangy-sweet cranberry orange cake. And for those who love breakfast pastries, the moist Bundt-shaped sour cream pecan coffee cake is unparalleled pleasure. |
