| Formerly Café 15, Ici Urban Bistro offers the same discreet luxury as in its earlier incarnation but an entirely Americanized menu based on French classics. If that seems like a contradiction in terms, consider that while the French onion soup is richly cheesy, the yellowfin tuna Niçoise is garnished with quail eggs; and the petit plat of pan-seared scallops stars sautéed apples and baby spinach. Dinner also couples French classics with American brio, with such dishes as duck cassoulet with crispy duck confit, sautéed Maine lobsters, and wild mushroom risotto splashed with truffle oil. Breads are made in-house, as are the pastries and elegant desserts. If it’s featured, don’t skip the mini lemon meringue parfait. Brunch includes an omelet with smoked ham and goat cheese, brioche french toast with caramelized apples, and a croque monsieur sided with pommes frites. All in all, an Americanized Gallic treat in downtown DC. |
