A candlelit hideaway beneath Pike Place Market, this romantic restaurant serves classic Italian cuisine with Northwest flair. The intimate setting resembles a movie set, perfect for a clandestine rendezvous or sultry date. The menu of classically prepared fare includes veal variations, balsamic-glazed roasted salmon, sautéed greens, and a noble Caesar salad. The rack of lamb steeped in garlic, rosemary and red wine is a standout, as are pastas such as fettuccine with a sauce of caramelized onions, prosciutto and herbs. The kitchen also turns out first-rate antipasti, bruschetta, carpaccio and sautéed prawns. Dessert lovers will be seduced by the silky panna cotta. The notable wine list focuses on Italy, California and the Northwest. Servers are as seasoned as the folks behind the bar, and if you're seeking a quiet, late-night dinner, Il Bistro serves until 1 a.m.
