THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Il Chianti Restaurant Review

: As the sister restaurant to Chianti-Sette in Tokyo, Il Chianti specializes in the cooking of Italy and Japan. There are a few traditional sushi options, but it is when these two cuisines are combined that the complex preparations begin. A large bowl of squid ink spaghetti, a specialty of the house, is more like a soup, as homemade noodles, made black from squid ink, swim in a pool of cream with mushrooms and bacon. Scallop and cod roe gratin has textural appeal with its layers of sweet fat scallops and bursts of salty roe. Seafood stone pot risotto is packed with the umami flavors of soy sauce and ponzu, but has the crunch found in a Spanish paella, while the uni pizza has a crisp, thin crust providing the foundation for gooey, somewhat melted sea urchin on top. Desserts lean more toward Italy, with the likes of tiramisu, and the wine list offers a small number of sakés as well as a few lesser known Italian varietals like Aglianico.
