Il Fornaio Restaurant Review: When the Il Fornaio chain hit San Francisco everyone was happy to dig into its hearty, simple Italian dishes, take-out frothy lattes from the espresso bar and break open a crusty loaf of its rustic bread. The stand-out artichokes are stuffed with bread crumbs, garlic and Parmigiano Reggiano. Signature wood-fired pizzas have crisp crusts and tasty toppings. Pastas include butternut squash ravioli, penne with roasted lamb and aged ricotta and a robust lobster spaghettini. Local chicken and duck spin on the rotisserie to a golden brown. Specials are offered in the form of "Feste Regionale," menus (with wine pairings) highlighting major and minor regions in Italy. Desserts and pastries come from the adjacent bakery and can easily be taken out and enjoyed along the Embarcadero or in Levi's Plaza. |
