| When the Il Fornaio chain hit San Francisco years ago everyone was happy to dig into their hearty, simple Italian dishes, take-out frothy lattes from the espresso bar and break open a crusty loaf of its rustic bread. The stand-out artichokes are stuffed with bread crumbs, garlic and Parmigiano Reggiano. Signature wood-fired pizzas have always had crisp crusts and tasty toppings. Pastas include butternut squash ravioli, penne with roasted lamb and aged ricotta and a robust lobster spaghettini. Local chicken and duck spin on the rotisserie to a golden brown. Desserts and pastries come from the adjacent bakery and can easily be taken out and enjoyed along the Embarcadero or in Levi's Plaza. |
