THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Il Forno Restaurant Review:
Il Forno means the oven and there is indeed a wood-burning oven in the open kitchen at this romanticized vision of Italy, with tiny lights entwined in latticework, paintings of the Amalfi coast and walls painted terra cotta to resemble the walls of a country village. The restaurant is a spin-off of Windsors Da Luciano. Luciano Verardi had always wanted to bring his sturdy Italian cooking across the river, and in partnership with an American friend and his brother Pepino he has succeeded. The menu includes the excellent thin-crusted pizzas topped with seafood or capers, anchovies and olives, a number of fish dishes including red snapper, broiled swordfish and shrimp alla diavola as well as veal scaloppini and beef dishes. An array of pastas includes fettuccine alla Pepino, a show-stopper with its pink nuggets of lobster in a blend of tomatoes and cream. Accompaniments include roasted potatoes, green salads with the subtle house dressing and crusty white bread from the oven.
