| At this Imo’s location near the Washington University/Barnes-Jewish medical complex, there are only a few tables because most of the food is either delivered or consumed on the run. Overlook the nonexistent décor: Imo's is a St. Louis tradition for the food, not the setting. The pizza causes no ambivalence---it's either loved or hated. Key components are a cracker-thin crust, square pieces, a sweet-tangy tomato sauce and gobs of Provel cheese (a gooey, tooth-sticking combination of cheddar, Swiss and provolone that’s unique to St. Louis). House salads, festooned with more of the same cheese, are simple but not bad, except for the sweet house dressing. Provel also features heavily in the pastas and sandwiches, and it does melt nicely over salsiccia. Imo’s has embraced technology, with online ordering (as well as free WiFi at this location) and daily specials revealed via social media sites. |
