Bob’s Bunz Islamorada Restaurant & Bakery Restaurant Review

: For over 20 years, since pastry chef Robert Spencer Jr. relocated from Philadelphia to the Florida Keys and opened a bakery business, Islamorada locals have been calling it Bob’s Bunz, and they’re not about to stop. Why should they? The other half of this place’s full name, the half on the big sign out front, reflects the business’s growth to full restaurant. But the bakery component is still going strong and the signature items are still baker Bob’s buns: sticky buns topped with walnuts, and frosting-drenched cinnamon buns. Other fresh-baked favorites include mini Key lime cookies and Black Forest puff pastries. The sit-down restaurant is a good place to take a coffee break, especially since breakfast dishes include unique inventions like the Islamorada Skillet: sweet potato tater tots topped with melted provolone and smothered in sausage gravy; it comes with two basted eggs and a tender homemade biscuit. Other breakfast dishes range from original creations of blueberry bread french toast topped with a battered and deep-fried banana or the regular Wednesday special of two grilled sticky buns with caramel sauce plus bacon.
