Capturing a panoramic dockside view of Elliot Bay, Ivar's Acres of Clams is the first restaurant the late Ivar Haglund’s opened to launch his dining empire. The casual spot offers a full range of classic Northwest seafood dishes, including Ivar's famously thick clam chowder and crisp fish ‘n’ chips. There’s nothing fancy about this big, bright restaurant. It caters to tourists, as well as loyal locals who come for the fresh fish and memories of Seattle pre-Microsoft and Starbucks. The menu also includes a mixed seafood grill, wild Alaskan halibut and Alaska king crab legs, and more complex dishes such as Northwest mussels in coconut curry, and a respectable saffron-accented bouillabaisse loaded with shellfish, salmon and halibut. Don't forget the clams---acres of 'em! Those who do not opt for fish will savor the pork porterhouse with apple-orange beurre blanc, or the grilled orange chicken with cranberry plum sauce. If you have kids in tow or out-of-town visitors, Ivar's Acres of Clams is the perfect place to watch the sunset or serene ferry boats.
